Explaining the settings on a course.
Why is it Important?
Once a course shell has been set up, it's important for an editing trainer to know what each of the settings will do and how to make changes.
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Click on Settings:
- Course full name: The name displayed in My Courses and in the list of available courses on the Course Catalog page.
- Course short name: The name displayed in areas of limited space. The name must be unique.
- Course category: Determines which category the course will appear in in the list of courses.
- Course visibility: If set to show: it will appear in the list of courses that Learners can see and access; If set to hide: the course can only be seen and accessed by users that have been enrolled in the course as Trainers and Editing Trainers and users that have the capability of seeing hidden courses.
- Course start date: Determines the start of the first week for the course using the course format "Weekly sections".
- Course end date: Determines whether a course is listed as "Overdue" in My courses. This date does not restrict a Learner's access to the course.
- Course ID number: Only used to connect the course with external systems. Leave blank if you don't have an official course ID.
Course summary: You can add a short description of your course. The content added here is searchable.
- Course image: The course image is displayed in My Courses and in the list of available courses on the Course Catalog. You can drag and drop a file into the Course image container or use the File picker to select and/or upload an image. Only be one file/image can exist in the Course image container at a time. To replace the course image file with a different file, you must first delete the course image file and then select/upload a different file.
Course format: You can choose which format to use for the course.

Appearance: You can choose a theme for the course, the number of announcements, whether to show the gradebook to Learners which will show them their grades.
- Number of announcements: If set to 0 the "Announcements" forum and the "Latest announcements" block won't appear.
Files and uploads: You can choose the maximum upload size that Learners can upload to the course- up to 1 GB.

Completion tracking:
- Enable completion tracking: If set to "yes", you can set conditions for activity completion or course completion.
- Show activity completion conditions: If set to "yes", it will show activity completion conditions on the course page.
- Groups: You can choose whether to put your Learners in groups and whether they can see work from other groups.

Other fields: These are optional fields
- Course dates: These will show up when a Learner searches for a course- these are very helpful to Learners.
- Is course required of recommended for any Incident Qualification: The default is set to "No".
- Should Completion Data be Transferred to IQCS/IQS: The default is set to "No".
